This summer, Social Investment Scotland (SIS) hosted Ambitions LIVE: Building Sustainable Social Enterprises, in partnership with the Postcode Innovation Trust.
This dynamic gathering provided social enterprise leaders with the unique opportunity to connect with commercial buyers while equipping them with the tools, knowledge, and networks essential for achieving success in today’s evolving market. The event attracted a diverse group of attendees from across the sector, all eager to explore innovative strategies for sustainability and scaling impact in an ever-changing landscape.
The event was hosted by SIS Associates Rachael Brown, Naomi Johnson, and Chloe Cannon.
Their focus throughout the day was on four critical areas: sustainable leadership, procurement, storytelling, and product development.
The goal was to provide attendees with practical advice and insights on creating strategies that not only drive financial success but also maximise social impact.
Key Themes and Insights from Ambitions LIVE
One of the standout features of Ambitions LIVE was the opportunity for attendees to meet a diverse range of commercial buyers, including:
- Stephen Coia, Managing Director of VKY Intelligent Automation
- Helenor Fisher, Sales & Marketing Director at Malin Group
- Audrey McHugh, Facilities Manager at Malin Group
- Mehalah Beckett, Chief Sustainability Officer at Connect Three
The presence of these influential buyers provided a fantastic networking opportunity at the start of the session. It set the stage for fostering collaborations and building lasting relationships that can drive collective impact, bridging the gap between commercial and social enterprises.
Exploring the Building Blocks of Sustainable Social Enterprises
Throughout the day, attendees were treated to a series of engaging panel discussions featuring experts who explored the fundamental components of building a sustainable social enterprise. These discussions covered a broad range of topics, including
- Leveraging Technology for Social Good: Exploring how emerging technologies can be harnessed to enhance social impact.
- Developing Effective Governance Structures: Insight into creating robust governance frameworks that support sustainable growth.
- Accessing New Markets: Strategies for expanding reach and entering new markets to increase impact.
The discussions were rich with actionable insights and sparked meaningful conversations about the future of the social enterprise sector, and we hope all attendees left with a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities in building sustainable social enterprises that can adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing world.
